RENOVATION OF KERR HALL
PERTINENT FACTS
Kerr Hall was constructed in 1969 as a twin tower, eight-story dormitory. The iron piping in the building has deteriorated over time and in 1996 was replaced in the "B" Tower because of a growing problem with leaks. The "A" Tower is now beginning to experience similar problems particularly on the fourth and sixth floors, and the piping in those areas needs to be replaced. In addition, a significant amount of mechanical equipment (boilers, heat exchangers, commercial hot water heaters, and energy management system) which serve both towers, needs to be either repaired, replaced, or added. There will also be some asbestos abatement associated with the project.
The cost of this project, paid for from Auxiliary reserves, is not expected to exceed $1.4 million and should be completed by August 2002.
RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS
The President, with the concurrence of the Chancellor, recommends that the Board of Regents approve the renovation project described above for an amount not to exceed $1.4 million.
