UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS REGENTS PROFESSORSHIPS

PERTINENT FACTS

The purpose of the Regents Professorship award, approved by the Board of Regents on February 27, 1987, is to provide recognition and salary support for individuals currently at the rank of professor who have performed outstanding teaching, research or both. A Regents Professor is expected to teach as least one course, or the equivalent in individual instruction, each semester. Furthermore, he/she shall devote at least half of each biennium’s teaching workload to appropriate introductory level courses as determined by the teaching needs of their academic units.

The award consists of the designation "Regents Professor" and a continuing salary supplement of $5,000 per year added to the nine-month salary base. Up to ten awards may be made per year with the restriction that no more than 25 percent of those at the rank of professor can hold the designation "Regents Professor" at any one time. Sixteen faculty were recommended for this award by their departments and deans. The final list was determined by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, acting upon recommendations from the faculty Regents Professor Selection and Review Committee, and forwarded to the President and Chancellor.
