FACULTY DEVELOPMENT LEAVES

PERTINENT FACTS

In 1984 the University of North Texas began granting faculty development leaves, recognizing the need for faculty to have opportunity to pursue major research or creative projects in order to contribute to the body of knowledge in their fields and better serve their students by remaining current in their disciplines.  In 1987, the 70th Legislature similarly encouraged universities to expand faculty development programs through a series of measures that increased flexibility in accounting for faculty activities.  With the cooperation of the faculty in sharing teaching loads and through using $160,000 from local funds, the University plans to award a total of thirty-two developmental leaves for the upcoming academic year.

The Faculty Development Leave Committee, established under Texas Education Code 51.103, and following Board of Regents policies and procedures, recommends leaves for the faculty members on the attached list.

RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS

The President recommends, with the concurrence of the Chancellor, that the Board of Regents approve Faculty Development Leaves for the thirty-two individuals named on the attached list, contingent upon the availability of funds.
