BARBARA ALTMAN, visiting assistant professor of management, received a faculty development scholarship from the Consortium of Entrepreneurship Education. The award supported her work with the annual Entrepreneurship Education Forum, Nov. 13-16 in San Antonio.

MARY BETH BUTLER, director of the Study Abroad Center, presented "Ensuring Mobility for Students Who Have Disabilities" at the biannual conference of the International Student Exchange Program, Oct. 21 in Washington, D.C.

GARLAND CHOW, associate professor of marketing and logistics, presented "E-enabled Transportation Collaboration" at the North Texas Council of Logistics Management Roundtable, Nov. 11 in Irving. 

M. THEODORE ‘TED' FARRIS, associate professor of marketing and logistics, presented "Increasing Profitability: Using the Cash to Cash Metrics" at the Council of Logistics Management annual conference, Oct 6 in Philadelphia, and "Cash-to-Cash as a Performance Measure" at the North Texas Council of Logistics Management Roundtable, Nov. 11 in Irving.

OSCAR GARCIA, professor of computer science and engineering and dean of the College of Engineering, was elected to the board of directors of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers . He will serve as director of Division V, which is assigned to the IEEE Computer Society, the largest unit in the institute.


VICKI LYNNE GOODWIN, professor of management, LEWIS A. TAYLOR, Regents Professor of management, and doctoral student A. BANU GOKTAN won the Distinguished Paper Award for "Achievement Goal Orientation in Complex Decision Tasks," presented at the 35th annual meeting of the Decision Sciences Institute, Nov. 23 in Boston.

JIM HANOPHY and DAN O'BRIEN, program coordinators in the Department of Rehabilitation, Social Work and Addictions, presented "Quality Indicators and Best Practices for Individualized Community Based Assessment/Maximizing Effectiveness of Supported Employment Services and Consumer Employment Supports" at the annual meeting of the Texas Rehabilitation Action Network, Nov. 1 in Fort Worth.

PAUL LEUNG, professor and chair of the Department of Rehabilitation, Social Work and Addictions, presented "Cultural Diversity: Who Me?" at the annual meeting of the Texas Rehabilitation Action Network, Nov. 1 in Fort Worth. Leung and LINDA HOLLOWAY, associate professor of rehabilitation, social work and addictions, participated in the panel "Capacity Building for Community Rehabilitation Programs: Addressing Diversity" at the fall conference of the Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation, Nov. 9 in Nashville, Tenn.

MICHAEL McGUIRE, associate professor of public administration, wrote a chapter in the third edition of The Effective Local Government Manager, published in October by the International City/County Management Association. CHARLDEAN NEWELL, Professor Emeritus of public administration, served as editor of the book.

LESLIE PATTERSON, professor of teacher education and administration, and CAROL WICKSTROM, assistant professor of teacher education and administration, received an honorable mention award for journals published by affiliates of the National Council of Teachers of English at the NCTE annual convention, Nov. 21 in Indianapolis. They co-edit the journal English in Texas, published by the Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts.

TERRANCE L. ‘TERRY' POHLEN, assistant professor of marketing and logistics, presented "A Framework for Developing Supply Chain Metrics" at the North Texas Council of Logistics Management Roundtable, Nov. 11 in Irving; and "Evaluating Supply Chain Performance" and "Supply Chain Issues and Opportunities in Costing and Finance" at the Logistics Institute, Georgia Institute of Technology, Nov. 15 in Atlanta.

CECILIA THOMAS and HARRIET COHEN, assistant professors of rehabilitation, social work and addictions, presented "Field Outcomes: A Comparative Study of the Impact of Field Seminar Models" at the Association of Social Work baccalaureate program directors annual conference, Nov. 5 in Detroit. Cohen also participated in the panel "Memories of Older Adults of Events Involving Discrimination" at the National Association of Social Workers Texas Chapter annual meeting, Oct. 22 in Austin.

CELIA WILLIAMSON, associate professor of rehabilitation, social work and addictions and special assistant to the provost, presented "Bio/Psychosocial/Spiritual Aspects of Disability — Part of the Journey: Disabilities and Human Development" at the annual meeting of the Texas Rehabilitation Action Network, Nov. 1 in Fort Worth.

JOHN BAEN, professor of finance, insurance, real estate and law, discusses growth opportunities for North Texas cities in the Nov. 6 Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He comments on possible future uses for the Texas Stadium property in the Nov. 15 Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

BERNARD WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, was quoted on a WFAA-TV broadcast at 9 p.m. Nov. 12 about natural gas production in Fort Worth. He comments on a Perryman Group forecast for economic growth in the Nov. 19 Dallas Morning News. Also, he predicts that expansion plans for Countrywide Financial Corp. will benefit North Texas suburbs in the Nov. 25 Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

JEFFREY BURNHAM-HINTON, 49, stockroom supervisor in the Department of Chemistry from 1986 to 1994, died Nov. 13 in Dallas. He was a lifelong student of history and politics and a longtime member of the Denton County Democrats. He is survived by his wife, Jessica Burnham; his parents; and one sister.
