Regents confirm new senior vice president
Notable among actions at the Nov. 18 UNT System Board of Regents meeting was the confirmation of Greg McQueen as senior vice president for advancement — a position responsible for integrating and directing the areas of development, endowment management, stewardship and alumni relations.
President Norval Pohl pointed to McQueen's "tremendous contributions" in 15 years at the UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth where he served most recently as senior vice president for academic affairs.
As the result of another board approval, McQueen also will serve as president of the UNT Foundation. He will begin his new duties Jan. 1, 2005.
The regents also selected Steven Poe, professor of political science and Christian Family Professor of Peace Studies, as the 2005 Regents Faculty lecturer.
In other action, the regents:
- Approved a $7 million increase in the Chemistry Building project budget and increased the project cost not to exceed $30 million.
- Selected the architectural firm of Carter Burgess to design UNT's new Student Health and Wellness Center.
- Approved a request from donors interested in giving the university a gift of $250,000 to name the lobby of the new Student Health and Wellness Center in honor of distinguished alumnus W. David Bayless Sr.
- Authorized changing the name of the Men's Gym to Ken Bahnsen Gym in honor of the former student, athlete, coach, long-time instructor and mentor to thousands of UNT students. Bahnsen retired in 1998 but continued on modified service until May 2003, completing 43 years of service to the university.
- Approved naming the university street on the Eagle Point Campus (connecting Bonnie Brae to Victory Hall) Walt Parker Drive in honor of the former vice president/vice chancellor and UNT alumnus who served the university for 25 years.
- Increased the salaries of Chancellor Lee Jackson and Pohl by 3 percent, an amount consistent with the merit salary pool provided for faculty and staff.
- Selected Austin Commercial LP as the construction manager at risk for the new Tennis Complex and authorized contracts for the complex not to exceed $2.6 million.
- Conferred emeritus status on 12 distinguished retired individuals. For a list of those honored, click here.
