UNT System seeks approval for a public law school in downtown Dallas
On Dec. 6, University of North Texas Chancellor Lee F. Jackson announced the UNT System intends to seek approval from the Texas Legislature and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to establish a new public law school in downtown Dallas.

National Public Radio reporter to speak at commencement Dec. 18
Juan Williams, political analyst and correspondent for National Public Radio and Fox Television News, will be the featured speaker at the UNT fall 2004 commencement on Dec. 18.

UNT to present two honorary degrees 

This month, UNT plans to conclude its yearlong observance of the 50th anniversary of its desegregation by recognizing two barrier-breaking alumni — A. Tennyson Miller (posthumously) and Joe L. Atkins — for their contributions to the university's nonviolent integration.

UNT enters agreement to provide big possibilities for little technology
UNT and NanoHoldings LLC announced the joint formation of NanoStar Inc. — a newly formed commercial company that will sign an exclusive license to nanotechnology developed at the university — in a special ceremony at the UNT Research Park campus Nov. 17. The signing ceremony came at the dedication of new College of Engineering facilities.

State Employee Charitable Campaign reaches goal
Contributions to the 2004 State Employee Charitable Campaign totaled more than $147,000, with 31 percent participation of UNT faculty and staff. The amount surpasses the university goal to raise $130,000. The theme for this year's campaign was "Committed to a Stronger Community."

Senate discusses exam schedule, tenure, promotion
The Faculty Senate approved proposed changes to the Fall 2004 final examination schedule during the group's Nov. 10 meeting. The change came in response to the Mean Green football team's bid to play for the fourth year in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 14, during UNT's scheduled week of final exams. The new schedule moved exams originally scheduled for Dec. 13-15 to Dec. 8, 9 and today.
