Johnson sought the opinions of faculty through a 20-minute question-and-answer session. Senators expressed concerns about growing enrollment without equal growth within faculty ranks or tenure, faculty morale and budgeting. Johnson offered to examine all the concerns heard at the meeting. He also discussed the development of a means to offer incentives for faculty who obtain outside research funding. Naegeli explained his plans to increase campuswide use of his office by aggressively seeking out more companies to recruit UNT students and increasing staff outreach to the campus. Each staff member within the office is now assigned various colleges and schools to cover — seeking more input on faculty and student needs and the type of companies to be invited to recruit on campus. The office will also begin offering more in-depth career advising for students, Naegeli said. Also at the meeting, Phil Turner, dean of the School of Library and Information Sciences and associate vice president for academic affairs for distance education, introduced faculty to the new UNT eCampus portal for web-based courses. The site, www.UNTeCampus.com, includes listings of UNT's online offerings, the number of face-to-face visits required for each course, software requirements and even course assignments. Turner asked senators to inform their colleagues of the site and the need to fill in their course information for its databases. Currently, 50 percent of the information for online courses is complete, he said. The senate's Dec. 10 meeting will be covered in the next issue of InHouse.
