SECC drive tops $151,000

UNT contributions to the State Employee Charitable Campaign totaled $151,438.27 this year. Co-chair Jack Becker says the 2003 campaign was a tremendous success — the university reached its 34 percent participation rate goal with 996 individual faculty and staff members contributing.

Cumulative employee donations totaled $132,567.08. The additional $18,871.19 was raised through faculty and staff fund-raisers, including the fourth annual UNT-Sun SECC Golf Tournament, the SECC cookbook, a silent auction at the Eagle Student Services Center, the Union Goat Around, the SECC Celebrity Waiter Luncheon at Avesta, and several others.

The SECC was created in 1993 as a way for employees of the university to contribute to the charity of their choice through payroll deductions or a one-time gift.

The 2003 program was co-chaired by Becker, associate professor of business computer information systems, and Sharon Norman, assistant director of business services. This was Norman's first year to chair the program and Becker's second.

"This year's events went fabulously," Norman says. "You could really feel the excitement on campus."
