Mean Green returning to New Orleans Bowl Dec. 17

Trekking to New Orleans to watch the Mean Green compete in the New Orleans Bowl is fast becoming a tradition for UNT fans.

UNT will make its second trip in two years as Sun Belt Conference champions to the bowl on Dec. 17 in the Louisiana Superdome, providing fans with an opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of the holiday season in the Crescent City.

New Orleans Bowl game time is 6 p.m. Game tickets are $40 each and are available through the UNT athletics ticket office by calling (940) 565-2527.

Several pre-game activities are planned to help Mean Green fans get into the bowl spirit. Events include the official Mean Green New Orleans Bowl party Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Generations Hall, 310 Andrew Higgins Drive. The $25 charge includes traditional Cajun cuisine and plenty of entertainment. Other activities include the Mean Green Pre-game Tailgate Party and spirit rally and yell practice Dec. 17 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency next to the Superdome. Tailgating tickets are $15 each. Tickets to events are limited and reservations are required. Contact the athletics ticket office to make a reservation, or download a reservation form at www.unt.edu/mgathletics/bowlgame and fax it to (940) 565-2664.

Before the Mean Green heads east, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend a presentation for the football team Dec. 10 during halftime of the UNT vs. TCU men’s basketball game. Game time is 7 p.m. at the UNT Coliseum.

For fans unable to make the trip to New Orleans, several local events are planned. On campus you can catch the game at the Syndicate on the first floor of the University Union. The game watching party starts at 5 p.m. and lasts until the game ends and includes free food and refreshments.

Several Denton hot spots will also tune in for the big game. Catch the action on five screens at the Texican Grill, two blocks south of the Denton County courthouse; on eight screens at the Loophole on the courthouse square; or at Riprocks on West Hickory Street.

Those who want to help welcome the Mean Green back to Denton after the game should contact Tammy Coffey, Spirit Committee chair, at (940) 369-8398.
