Center for Play Therapy

The Center for Play Therapy, founded in 1988, encourages the unique development and emotional growth of children through the process of play therapy, a dynamic relationship between a child and a therapist trained in play therapy procedures. The therapist provides the child with selected play materials and facilitates a safe relationship for the child to express feelings, thoughts, experiences and behaviors through play – the child's natural medium of communication.

With eight fully equipped play therapy rooms, the center provides counseling services to children and parents from Denton and surrounding communities. Graduate-level courses in play therapy are offered, and scholarships are provided for qualified graduate students. The center also hosts visiting scholars from around the world and serves as an international clearinghouse of information about play therapy literature, training and research. The faculty and staff conduct ongoing research into some of the most pressing questions in the field.

To further its objectives, the Center for Play Therapy publishes the Directory of Play Therapy Training as well as The World of Play Therapy Literature, a definitive guide to every publication, author and subject in the field. The center also sponsors the annual Play Therapy Conference each October and a Play Therapy Institute each July.

The Center for Play Therapy is the largest, most comprehensive play therapy training program in the world.
