Operation Eagle 2004, which is collecting supplies for schools damaged by last fall's hurricanes, has been extended until Friday, March 4. Collection boxes are available at several campus locations, including the University Union, the Student Recreation Center, the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (Hurley Administration Building, Room 207), the UNT Speech and Hearing Center and the College of Education Dean's Office (Matthews Hall, Room 214). Suggested donations include pens and pencils, paper towels and tissues, pencil sharpeners, educational games, staplers, blank compact disks, batteries and gift cards for teachers. Monetary donations are also being collected. Operation Eagle 2004 began last November after a committee of students, faculty and staff members learned that all of the schools and school district buildings in Escambia County, which is located in the extreme northwestern corner of Florida on the Alabama border, were damaged when Hurricane Ivan hit the county Sept. 18. Approximately 75 percent of the schools suffered either moderate or major damage. For more information about needed donations, contact Ona Tolliver at (940) 565-3807.
