Center for Education Law, Administration and Policy

In 1998, the Center for Education Law, Administration and Policy was founded to provide continuing education in the areas of administration, law and policy to those associated with public schools or institutions of higher education. CELAP's approach is to examine issues from a comprehensive perspective, integrating information of importance to administrators, faculty and staff members as well as attorneys practicing in the field of school law. This approach is designed to promote interaction, understanding and cohesion within the academic community.

CELAP sponsors workshops, institutes, seminars and at least one major conference per year. Each spring, the center is the primary sponsor for the Texas Higher Education Law Conference. The revenues generated from these events provide funding for the center, which is self-supported. Additional profits from the center fund departments or activities within the College of Education. These funds are primarily designated for scholarships, for travel expenses for faculty and students attending conferences or meetings, and for receptions for speakers.

CELAP is located in the Office of the vice chancellor and general counsel in Room 202 of the Administration Building. Its co-directors are Frank Kemerer and Richard Rafes.
