Spring 2001 enrollment up almost 2.7 percent

As of Jan. 29 the 12th class day for Spring 2001 unofficial enrollment at UNT is 25,706.

Enrollment figures are not considered official until they are certified by the state later in the semester.

That figure continues UNT's upward trend in spring semester enrollment with an increase of about 2.7 percent over the final head count for last spring.

UNT's official annual enrollment is based on fall enrollment figures. There were 27,054 students enrolled in the Fall 2000 semester.

This spring's enrollment includes 671 more students than the 25,035 enrolled in Spring 2000.

UNT also experienced other increases this spring. The total number of undergraduate students is up 3.3 percent for this spring after an increase of 4.7 percent in 2000 and a 4 percent gain in 1999. The total number of semester credit hours is up 3 percent after jumps of 3.6 percent in 2000 and 4.5 percent in 1999.

Breakdowns for various categories such as ethnic minorities will not be available until later this semester when official figures are prepared.

Spring enrollments are usually lower than fall enrollments at colleges and universities because the influx of new students is not large enough to offset graduates and those who leave.
