FEES FOR PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION

Pertinent Facts

The University raised parking fees last year because of the increased cost of maintaining and operating the campus parking facilities. It is necessary to increase the fees again this year to provide required additional parking facilities, and to expand shuttle service on-campus and within the City of Denton.

Construction of new buildings and adding to current ones often results in eliminating, or largely reducing, campus parking facilities. One major new building is under construction and several more are being planned which will result in loss of parking spaces. Accordingly, it is necessary to add new parking facilities for replacement and for projected student enrollments.

In consideration of these factors, the following recommendations for fee increases were submitted by a campus wide committee consisting of students, faculty and staff. The recommendations were submitted to and approved by the University Safety and Transportation Committee.

Over the years the University has kept parking fees at the lowest level possible. Even with the proposed increases, parking at UNT will, for the most part, continue to cost less than at other large universities in Texas, as shown on the enclosed parking survey.
