A book review by JAMES BAIRD, associate professor of English, was published in the Arkansas Review, December 2001. The book he reviewed is titled Race, Rock and Elvis, by Michael T. Bertrand. A poem by BRUCE BOND, professor of English, was published in the Denver Quarterly, vol. 36, no. 1/2. The poem is titled "Bodhisattva." Other poems published recently were "Isaac," in the Penguin Book of the Sonnet: 500 Years of a Classic Tradition in English, Penguin Books, 2001; "Terminal," in River Styx, vol. 61; and "Vigil," in Beloit Poetry Journal, vol. 52, no. 2. LYNNE COOKE, assistant professor of English, received a $1,000 Research Initiation Grant from UNT, Dec. 17. MARY M. HARRIS, professor of teacher education and administration, presented "Is Mentoring Discipline Specific?" and "Seeking Quality in Large Professional Development School Networks" at the 82nd annual meeting of the Association of Teacher Educators, Feb. 2-5 in Denver, and "Explorations in Assessment: Preparing Teachers to Support American Indian Learners" at the National Conference on Multicultural Affairs in Higher Education, Feb. 3-6 in San Antonio. SAFISHA HILL-TRAYNHAM, director of the Student Ethnic Enrichment Center;
and TRISHA VAN DUSER GONZALES, former graduate research assistant
in student affairs, was published in Orientation Planning Manual,
National Orientation Directors Association, 2002. The chapter is titled
"Developing Effective Orientation Programs for Special Populations."
An article by Jacobs and ELIZABETH A. WITH, associate vice president
for student development, was published in the Journal of College Orientation
and Transition, vol. 9, no. 2. The article is titled "Orientation's
Role in Addressing the Developmental Stages of Parents: A Study of the
Acceptance Levels of Developmental Education Strategies."
National DAN HAERLE, Regents Professor of music, discusses his online jazz studies course in an article posted Feb. 6 on the Chronicle of Higher Education web site. State JOHN
