Tips to tame the challenges of the clock
Managing time efficiently proves to be a mystery for some, but Katy Goolsby, supplemental tutoring coordinator who conducts time management seminars for UNT's Learning Center, can help. She suggests the following ways to deal with issues of time:
- Identify your job-related priorities and limitations and arrange tasks accordingly. Systems such as personal digital assistants and day planners can help you with this process, but don't expect them to answer all of your time- management problems.
- Know your time temperament. Some people thrive on chaos while others prefer predictability when trying to accomplish goals.
- Remember that you have the power to select the task that gets most of your attention.
- Lighten your load by doing one thing at a time and communicating your priorities to other people.
- When bosses or co-workers ask you to accomplish a new task, tell them about your current deadlines and offer to delay one task in order to complete another.
- Have a sense of perspective. If you have 24 items on your to-do list and you can only accomplish three of them, focus on what can be done.
- Celebrate your accomplishments.
