UNT to commemorate advances and sacrifices of women during March

UNT will celebrate Women's History Month in March with a series of events and educational activities designed to highlight the accomplishments and achievements of women. The events are organized by the UNT Women's Center.

"Women's History Month is a time to commemorate the pioneers who paved the way for women's freedom, women's rights and women's lives," says Mary Pastorius, director of the Women's Center. "It reminds us of the hardships our foremothers experienced and their battles against society's prejudices in their times. It also should remind us that the battle is not over and that in their memory, we should continue their hard work."

Pastorius adds that another goal of Women's History Month is to provide a variety of successful female role models.

Activities will include workshops, luncheons, films, lectures and a month-long baby care donation drive. The drive, which benefits the Denton Family Resource Center, is collecting only new diaper bags and new receiving blankets. Contributors can drop off items at the Women's Center, University Union, Room 430, and the Commuter, Off-Campus and Non-Traditional Student Services office, University Union, Room 216I.

For more information, contact the Women's Center at (940) 565-3694 or visit web2.unt.edu/dos/new/wc.
