UNT offers career counseling

The UNT Department of Counseling, Development and Higher Education recently opened a Career Development Lab, which gives local community members the opportunity to learn about their interests, abilities and values related to career decision-making, as well as access to information about specific career options, all at a low cost.

Carolyn Kern, associate professor of counseling, development and higher education, is director of the Counseling and Human Development Center, which houses the career lab. She says clients who are deciding on their first career or planning a career change will benefit from the lab's services. Job search resources are also available at the lab or online.

The CHDC offers several types of counseling in addition to career counseling, including individual, family, group and couples counseling and play therapy. Counseling is open to the public and all age groups. Cost is based on a sliding scale determined by the client's income.

Counselors are master's and doctoral students. UNT faculty members supervise all counseling students.

The center is located in Stovall Hall. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday.

For more information, contact Kern, at (940) 565-2910 or visit counseling.unt.edu/careerlab.html. To make an appointment, call (940) 565-2970.
