Book drive for Thailand community expanded to include books for adults

The people of Chiang Rai, Thailand, need books, any books from Grisham to Steinbeck to build an English community library.

Carol Simpson, assistant professor of library and information sciences, was originally asked to create a children's library for a Chiang Rai Montessori school. Through a grant from an American businessman in Thailand, the library has expanded to serve the entire community.

Chiang Rai is a small town in the northern part of the country, and most of its residents are farmers or work in manufacturing. Simpson was seeking textbooks and children's books, but now the need has expanded to include both literature and non-fiction adult books in fairly decent condition.

Books can be sent via USPS media mail to the Chiang Rai Montessori School, 377/1 Moo 4, Tambol Romkok, Chiang Rai, Thailand 57000.

Contact Simpson at carol_simpson@unt.edu or call (940) 565-3776 for more information.
