Speech and Hearing Center The UNT Speech and Hearing Center has been serving Denton and the surrounding communities for more than 35 years. The center is part of a nationally ranked graduate program that prepares speech and hearing professionals. Each year, the 20 state-licensed and nationally certified audiologists and speech-language pathologists at the center provide speech, language and hearing services to about 1,000 infants, children and adults. Diagnostic and therapy activities include services for people who mispronounce words, who have problems processing spoken or written information or organizing thoughts and putting them into words, or who have voice or stuttering problems. The center also provides hearing and balance testing, hearing aid sales and programs to improve communication skills of hearing-impaired individuals. Last spring, the center initiated a language stimulation program for preschool-age children with language delays and group therapy sessions for new hearing-aid users, a program for adult stroke patients and their families, and a program for school-age children who present difficulties with peer conversations and classroom communication skills. The center, an 18,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, is located at 907 W. Sycamore St. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Full-time UNT students and retired faculty and staff receive services at no charge. Fees to others are charged on a sliding scale, and third-party payments are accepted.
