Faculty Senate holds final meeting of 2002

Faculty Senate members met for the final time in 2002 on Dec. 11 and approved a resolution to cancel their January meeting.

While in session, senators approved a definition of the phrase "administrative appointment" for the purpose of Regents Professorship eligibility. One of the requirements for eligibility is that a faculty member must be a full-time faculty
member not on administrative appointment. The senate approved a recommendation stating that administrative appointment means "department chairs (or their equivalent) or higher."

Jeffrey Oxford, senate chair, spoke to the senate about pending plans to develop the Eagle Point Golf Course land as the location for proposed athletics facilities, a residence hall and other non-academic structures. Read more about the proposed development on page 1 of this issue of InHouse.

In other business, senators approved a report from the Committee on Evaluation of University Administrators, pending a change to one survey question; approved a report from the Committee on Committees; and approved a report from the Oversight Committee of the University Core Curriculum.

David Kesterson, provost and vice president for academic affairs, addressed the senate with reports on the College of Engineering, the search for a dean of that college, and the search for a vice president for research and technology transfer. Kesterson also spoke to the senate about the proposed golf course developments.

The Faculty Senate meets again at 2 p.m. Feb. 12 in Wooten Hall, Room 322.
