Mean Green soars to grab bowl win

On Dec. 17, for the first time since 1946, the Mean Green was victorious in a bowl game, battling past the University of Cincinnati 24-19 and winning the second annual New Orleans Bowl.

UNT lays out plans for future expansion onto Eagle Point Golf Course property

The UNT community may soon notice big changes at the Eagle Point Golf Course. The university recently explained its proposed plans for re-allocating the golf course land for several phases of campus expansion.

Beautification Committee continues work on campus appearance

On Dec. 13, the Campus Beautification Committee convened to hear and discuss subcommittee reports.

Richard Rafes, UNT System vice chancellor and general counsel and interim vice chancellor for administration and UNT interim vice president for administration, proposed the formation of the committee and put out a call for volunteer members in July. Since then, membership has grown to about 60 people recruited from the faculty, staff, student body and general Denton community.

Staff survey indicates individual UNT groups place high priority on students, diversity

A report based on the results of the 2002 UNT Staff Survey is now available online for the UNT community to read at www.unt.edu/planning. According to Allen Clark, senior institutional research analyst in university planning, 90 percent of survey participants perceive that their departments place a high priority on students and 89.6 percent of survey participants perceive that their departments are supportive of efforts to recruit and retain ethnic minority employees.

Weather closing information

Cooler temperatures mean winter is here. Unfortunately, winter brings the threat of hazardous driving conditions due to snow and ice.

When weather conditions pose a significant threat to the safety of students, faculty and staff members who commute to campus, UNT's offices will close. UNT classes will be canceled not only at the Denton campus, but also at all locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth region where UNT classes are offered, including the Universities Center at Dallas. When the Denton campus closes, so does the UNT Dallas Campus (also known as the UNT System Center).

Success of holiday drives helps local families

The university community dug deep into its collective pockets this year for the annual holiday drives managed by the Human Resources Department and the University Program Council.

Special award recognizes longtime faculty member

At UNT's annual Service Recognition Awards ceremony Dec. 12, 439 individuals representing more than 5,650 years of service were honored. Among them was one faculty member who was recognized for 40 years of service to the university William Kamman, professor of history.
