System Center executive director addresses
Faculty Senate 
John Price,
executive director of the UNT System Center at Dallas, spoke about the
System Center's growth and impact on the Dallas community at the UNT Faculty
Senate meeting Dec. 12.
Price
said the center's goal is to have 2,500 full-time equivalent students
enrolled at the center by 2007, at which point UNT at Dallas could begin
operations.
Suzanne
LaBrecque, vice provost and associate vice president for academic affairs,
gave a report to senators regarding progress of the Americans With Disabilities
Act task force, created by UNT President Norval Pohl in 2000. The report
included accomplishments of the task force, like improved campus signage
to help accommodate people with disabilities, and goals the task force
has yet to meet.
In other
business, senators:
- approved
a resolution canceling the scheduled January senate meeting. The senate
meets again at 2 p.m. Feb. 13 in Wooten Hall, Room 322.
- approved
recommendations for nominations to senate committees.
- heard
a report from senate Vice Chair Jeffrey Oxford regarding the University
Committee's regular meeting with administrators. Topics administrators
discussed at the meeting included how the declining economy is predicted
to affect UNT, plans for the Texas Instruments complex the university
purchased in 2001, the status of the proposed engineering program and
the prospect of creating a new class type for research professors.
