The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recently gave UNT approval to begin offering a new bachelor's degree and a new doctor of philosophy degree this year, as well as to offer a new master's degree beginning in 2007. The UNT Department of Public Administration will offer a doctor of philosophy degree with a major in public administration and management beginning in the fall 2005 semester. The degree, which will prepare students for teaching at a college or university, replaces a political science doctoral degree with a concentration in public administration and management. UNT's College of Engineering began offering courses for a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering this semester, and master's-level degree courses are projected to begin in 2007. The National Science Foundation awarded the college a grant of more than $900,000 to support the curriculum that will focus on academic training as well as hands-on industrial projects.
