UNT gifts made holidays bright for residents in need

The 2004 toy and food drive sponsored by the Department of Human Resources was a huge success, says Kristen McMeen, assistant director of human resources training. University employees contributed 10,382 pounds of food and $1,144 for the Denton Community Food Bank. The drive also collected 847 toys for the Silent Santa program.

Although this year's donations of toys and food were slightly less than in past years, the amount of monetary donations almost doubled last year's total. UNT moving and hauling employees delivered five truckloads of donations to the food bank, McMeen says.

"This is a wonderful program because it gives so many people a chance to make a difference in our community," McMeen says. "It's a good feeling to know that you helped someone have a better holiday than they would have had otherwise."
