Hispanic higher education magazine names UNT to its Publisher's Picks List

For the 11th consecutive year, The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine has named UNT to its Publisher's Picks List of universities with solid records of recruiting and graduating Hispanic students.

The magazine also selected UNT for its lists of the top 100 institutions graduating Hispanics with bachelor's degrees and doctoral degrees. Hispanic Outlook compiles the lists using data from the National Center for Education Statistics. This year's lists use data from 2001-02, and based on that data the magazine gave UNT a ranking of 61st on the list of universities graduating Hispanics with bachelor's degrees. The university has been named to this list every year since 1998.

UNT claimed the 92nd spot on the list of universities and colleges awarding the most doctoral degrees to Hispanics. UNT was also named to this list in 2003, 2001 and 1998.

The university has steadily increased its enrollment of Hispanic students during the past 15 years. In Fall 1989, Hispanics accounted for only 3.9 percent of the total student body. In Fall 2004, Hispanic students accounted for 10 percent of UNT's enrollment.
