The annual UNT Equity and Diversity Conference and pre-conference begins Feb. 25, with the first Texas regional Stop the Hate! Campus Bias and Hate Crime Prevention Train the Trainer Program. The two-day program specializes in training campus personnel and students in fighting bias and hate crimes on college campuses. The registration deadline is Jan. 26. Facilitators and participants of Stop the Hate! at UNT represent the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti-Defamation League, the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence and Tolerance.org, as well as the University of Texas at Arlington, Baylor University, the University of Houston, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Sam Houston State University, St. Philip's College, Stephen F. Austin State University, the Texas Region X Education Service Center, Mesa State College in Arizona and UNT. The conference offers two free sessions, open to everyone, in the University Union Lyceum Feb. 26. The first panel presentation, "World Religions, Communities and Campus Environments: Discrimination and What to Do," begins at 5:15 p.m. The second presentation, "GLBT Nondiscrimination," begins at 7:30 p.m. Harriet Cohen, assistant professor of rehabilitation, social work and addictions, moderates both panels.
