UNT System Chancellor Hurley announces plans to step down
August 31


UNT System Chancellor Alfred F. Hurley today announced his plans to step down on August 31
the day he will complete what he describes as 22 "happy" years with the university and the UNT System.

When he departs, Hurley, 73, will have served as the UNT System's chief executive officer for more than 20 years.

UNT faculty member to live Olympic dream

free-style skierOn Feb. 9, when the first American walks to the start of the 2002 Winter Olympics mogul course at Deer Valley Resort outside of Salt Lake City, Karen Cogan will be watching closely.

Cogan won't be a member of the U.S. Freestyle Mogul Team. The UNT assistant professor of psychology will be one of several sport psychologists on hand to provide support to the athletes.

Wanted: Your ideas for celebrations honoring UNT athletic accomplishments

Norval Pohl, guest writerA recent call on the UNT Answer Line has remained on my mind since I first heard it.

The caller expressed a deep concern that there were no on-campus events to bring members of the university family together to support the football team during our first postseason bowl appearance in 42 years.

Now, rather than continuing to wrestle with the subject alone, I want to use this column to invite some UNT community discussion about what to do when the opportunity comes again. And it will come again – UNT student athletes will win other Sun Belt Conference championships and we will return to the New Orleans Bowl.

UNT to present film series with multicultural relations focusVideo maze

In an attempt to increase the number of foreign films shown in the Metroplex, UNT is launching a film festival that will bring attention to some little-shown films that emphasize how different cultures interact.

The series, "Exploring Multicultural Relations," will present films from 12 different nations on Tuesdays from Jan. 29 to April 23, except for March 19, when UNT is closed for spring break.
