"We often hear that others don't appreciate what a terrific university UNT is and that other colleges perceived to be better are actually not as good," says Deborah Leliaert, vice president for university relations. "We need our reputation to match our quality. Branding will help us do that."

Branding is determining the essence of who you are as an institution and communicating it clearly and consistently, Leliaert says. The process of building a brand will change the university's graphic identity and clarify its image and reputation.

For several months, a design team composed of UNT faculty and alumni has been working with University Relations, Communications and Marketing to develop new wordmarks and lettermarks for academic and spirit/athletic use.

Faculty, staff and students have until Jan. 31 to offer their opinions on several sets of identity marks developed by the design team. To comment on the marks and learn more about the branding process, go to www.unt.edu/branding.
