Faculty, staff to enjoy exclusive Student Recreation Center preview Aug. 13-15

UNT faculty and staff will have the new Student Recreation Center all to themselves from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 13-15 as the center hosts a sneak preview exclusively for UNT employees.

The opening will allow faculty and staff to get acquainted with the facility, free of charge, before students begin using it Aug. 17.

Faculty and staff will be able to use both of the center's new pools — the 25-yard, eight-lane lap pool and the 5,510-square-foot leisure pool that also includes a flowing water channel, swirling vortex, water fountains, spray tunnel, water curtains, underwater seating and whirlpool spa — from noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. each day. The facility's gym courts for basketball, volleyball and badminton and its 1/8-mile jogging track will all be available from noon to 6 p.m. each day. Hour-long aerobics classes will be held at noon each day, and faculty and staff may watch demonstrations of the climbing wall or learn more about the weight rooms through orientations each day.

Games and contests will also be available in the outdoor areas and in the gymnasiums. Prizes will be awarded. And faculty and staff who need a little midday snack are in luck. The rec center's Sidelines Deli will be offering free food, including smoothies and Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

During the opening, faculty and staff may begin purchasing rec center memberships from recreational sports staff members. Membership fees will be $75 per semester — fall, spring or summer — or $18.75 for the May Mini-mester. Fees can be paid by semester or annually, and faculty and staff have the option of using payroll deduction.
