Summer I enrollment climbs 1.2 percent over last year

Enrollment reports after the census date for UNT's 2004 Summer I term show an unofficial increase of 1.2 percent over figures for the first summer term of 2003.

This year's enrollment of 12,731 students is 157 students greater than the official total for Summer I students last year.

"The fact that 354 of last year's Summer I students were enrolled in a one-time College of Education Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund (TIF) grant program makes the increase loom even larger since no TIF students are enrolled this summer," says Joneel Harris, associate vice president for enrollment management.

According to Harris, both a significant increase in the 2002 Summer I enrollment and a modest decline in Summer I enrollment last year can be directly traced to the number of students participating in the TIF program.

"When you take the students in the TIF program completely out of the equation last year and in 2002, you see that our numbers would show a modest increase for each," she says.

Enrollment in the recently concluded May Mini-mester was down 5.5 percent (or 215 students) when compared directly with last May. UNT enrollment figures are not considered official until they are certified by the state
