New video created to boost UNT spirit and pridestar cheerleaders

The office of Student Activities and Organizations has recently completed a video to promote school spirit and pride at UNT.

The video showing spirited Mean Green fans at events such as Homecoming, football and basketball games, and the New Orleans Bowl was produced by Amy Ayres, campus spirit and activities coordinator, with the help of the Center for Media Production.

"The purpose of the video is to help prospective students, current students and alumni see the rejuvenated spirit on campus," Ayres says.

She hopes the video, created for new student and transfer student orientations, can also be shown at UNT football and basketball games.

She says enhancing school spirit and connecting new students with UNT traditions was the original goal of the project, but the video can be used for much more.

"This is just a stepping stone," Ayres says. She hopes to update the video every summer.

The Department of Housing and Residence Life has already expressed interest in using the video during Sunday Fun Day Aug. 18, the day residence halls open for students.

Maureen Clouse, residential and judicial affairs coordinator and Sunday Fun Day organizer, hopes to play the video in the residence halls for students and parents moving in that day.

"The more we can do to expose parents, friends and the student body to school spirit and pride, the more school spirit it will create," Clouse says.

Randall Nunn, senior assistant director of admissions, says the video can also be useful in recruiting students.

"It will be a great addition to our recruitment programs such as our UNT Nights, where we see hundreds of students and their parents from the Metroplex," he says. "One definitely can see how this video exemplifies our school spirit."

The spirit video can be downloaded on the web at www.unt.edu/sac/Traditions.
