UNT regent and supporter passes away
Lucille
G. "Lupe" Murchison, 75, a Dallas philanthropist and former UNT regent,
died July 3 at her home. A funeral was held July 5.

Regents
OK purchase of new information system
In a special
telephone meeting June 14, the UNT System Board of Regents approved the
procurement of a new Oracle database enterprise-wide
information system (EIS) to replace the outdated computing
systems at UNT and the UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
According to Richard Harris, associate vice president for computing
and communications services, the total license fee and first year support
cost for the initial Oracle products will be $931,762 and the cost of
installation is estimated to be another $1 million.

Why
the UNT System needs a new information system 
In some
ways, UNT's administrative information systems are like aging, but still
quite dependable, plow horses. They are reliable, stable and still do
the job they've done for many years. But, their age is showing and they
certainly do not display the technological characteristics of more modern
systems. An additional challenge is the lack of available parts for equipment
that breaks down.

Mayborn
Graduate Institute of Journalism awards $200,000
UNT's Mayborn
Graduate Institute of Journalism has awarded $200,000 in scholarships
for the 2001-02 academic year.
Twenty
students, all earning master's degrees in journalism, will each receive
$10,000. Four of the students won the scholarships last year and applied
successfully to renew them.

to host intensive summer math camp

seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders will spend July swimming, sleeping
