Kirven Craft, a Dallas independent business consultant and UNT alumna, has assumed her new responsibilities and will participate in the next regularly scheduled board meeting Aug. 24 and 25 at the UNT System Center at Dallas. After graduating from North Texas in 1968, Craft became a nutritionist with the Dallas Independent School District and eventually ran the district's nutrition program. She then went on to serve as director of sales for Pepsico/Tricon Global Restaurants in the Pizza Hut Division. As a result of successful endeavors in her 20-year career in the food services industry, Craft was one of only 25 women profiled in Women Who Have Won, a book by Dina Moor that highlights the careers of Dallas businesswomen. She also has received awards for her contributions to the industry, including the International Food Manufacturers Association's Silver Plate Award and the Pacesetter Award from the Roundtable for Women in Food Service. Last year, Craft began her own consulting business, which helps clients break into new markets in the food service arena. Craft is involved in numerous community and civic organizations. She serves on the boards of directors at Zale Lipshy University Hospital and the Dallas Museum of Art. In addition, she has chaired one committee and served actively on others in her local chapter of The Links Inc., a national community service organization. She also is a member of the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce and a volunteer in the effort to bring the 2012 Olympics to the Metroplex. As an active member of the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church, Craft serves as a volunteer in its youth ministry. Her activities at UNT include serving as the 1999-2000 president of the North Texas Exes, a member of the UNT President's Council, and a member of the Board of Governors for the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management. In 1997, the university presented her with the Outstanding Alumna Service Award. "Marjorie Craft has established herself as a proven performer in the business, civic and alumni arenas," says Chancellor and President Alfred F. Hurley. "I am certain that her tenure on the Board of Regents will extend an already excellent record of service to the university and her community." The board's other regents include Roy Gene Evans, Richard Knight Jr. and Tom Lazo Sr. of Dallas; George W. Pepper of Fort Worth; Burle Pettit of Lubbock; John Robert "Bobby" Ray of Plano; Gayle W. Strange of Aubrey; and Martha Fuller Turner of Houston.
