Moving day —Denton city parks workers transplanted several trees June 23 and 24 from the west side of the Eagle Point Campus to the east side of the campus to form a green belt between the campus and neighborhood homes. Plans include moving about 100 trees in all to the eastside green belt area.

MAUREEN CLOUSE, assistant director for residential and judicial affairs in the housing department, received a $700 research grant from the Association of College and University Housing Officers International for her research on parental notification policies and underage alcohol use.

JOHN J. HAYNIE, Professor Emeritus of music, was honored with the International Trumpet Guild Award of Merit at the International Trumpet Guild conference, May 24 in Fort Worth. Called one of the most influential trumpet teachers of the 20th century, Haynie was at North Texas for 40 years. Many of the more than 2,000 trumpet players he taught became internationally recognized as performers and teachers.

DALE ODOM, Professor Emeritus of history, made a presentation June 20 about Denton County post offices as part of the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum lecture series.

TERRY CLOWER, assistant professor of applied economics and associate director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, discusses the increased demands placed on employees in terms of productivity as a result of decreased personnel in the June 16 Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

UNT System Chancellor LEE JACKSON is featured in the June 20 issues of the Dallas Morning News and Denton Record-Chronicle about his recent enrollment in a Spanish class at North Texas.

LAWRENCE KELLY, retired professor of history, is featured in a June 1 Austin American-Statesman article discussing a court victory by the Alabama-Coushatta tribe for redress for the loss of ancestral lands.

DEE KNIGHT, assistant professor of merchandising and hospitality management, comments on the impact of the current SARS breakout on study abroad travel in the June 18 Dallas Morning News.

JOHN MURPHY, associate professor of music, is featured in a June 20 Dallas Morning News article on the Taste of Northeast and All That Jazz festival, in which he will participate. The festival benefits the Arts Council of North East Tarrant County.

CHARLDEAN NEWELL, Professor Emeritus of public administration, talks in the June 20 Dallas Morning News about the state comptroller's role in the decision not to certify the state spending plan.

ROBERT TAYLOR, professor and chair of the Department of Criminal Justice, comments on bulletins sent from the Homeland Security Department to local police officials to help detect terrorism in the May 25 Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Taylor also appeared on the 10 p.m. newscast of KTVT-TV/Channel 11 June 19 to discuss cyber-crime.

BERNARD WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, speaks about the decrease in hiring of employees by companies locally and nationally in the June 17 Dallas Morning News. He discusses the lack of spending by consumers in the June 2 Plano Star-Courier and in the June 6 Plano Star-Courier comments on issues EDS is facing after a deal with WorldCom Inc. Weinstein. He is featured in a May 14 Inside Business Collin County article focusing on his opinion of the economy and its future.

JON YOUNG, professor and chair of the Department of Technology and Cognition, is featured in a May 25 Dallas Morning News article on the increased demand for instructional designers as a result of increased use of technology in academia.

PAUL HUTCHISON, assistant professor of accounting, advocates in the May 29 Archer County News for tax incentives for parents who pay child support.

JAMES KENNEDY, professor of biological sciences and an aquatic entomologist, suggests ways that Texans can prepare for mosquito season in the June 5 Throckmorton Tribune.

RUDY RODRIGUEZ, professor of teacher education and administration and director of the bilingual and English-as-a-second language program, is featured in the June 12 Oak Cliff Tribune and the June 13 Denton Record-Chronicle discussing the university's efforts to prepare high-quality bilingual and ESL teachers through a camp for students planning to major in ESL.

HERMAN TOTTEN, faculty executive assistant to the president, was featured in a May 21 Panola Watchman article on a study he is involved with initiated by the National Library Association to increase the salaries of library personnel.

STEVEN FORDE, professor of political science, is president of the North Texas Association of Phi Beta Kappa. PBK, founded in 1776, is the nation's oldest academic honors society. The North Texas Association holds events for people who were members of PBK in college and have since graduated.

KENNETH SEWELL, professor of psychology, was cast as the lead ("Curly") in Denton Community Theatre's upcoming production of Oklahoma. The production will run Aug. 14-31.
