Time for summer enrollment in benefits programs approaches

It's time again for UNT employees to think about benefits packages and enrolling in opportunities they may have overlooked before.

Another brick in the wall — Work continues on Traditions Hall, UNT's newest residence hall, located on the west side of campus. The 300-bed hall is nearing completion, in anticipation of its scheduled opening in August — just in time for students to move in for the Fall 2003 semester.

 

UNT receives $900,000 to fund research

UNT recently received $900,000 from the Welch Foundation for the support of research into some of chemistry's most complex issues.

"The Welch Foundation's mission is to advance basic research in chemistry for the betterment of humankind, and its primary tool to achieve this is support for the talented chemists working at Texas institutions of higher education," says Richard J.V. Johnson, chair of the Welch Foundation.

New Faculty Senate chair says he's 'still emerging' as a scholar and leader

Nearly a decade has passed since an emerging scholar published a manuscript addressing the psychological climate of U.S. universities and colleges. The research was not well cited, and it did not contribute a great deal to the advancement of knowledge. It was just one of dozens of manuscripts he had published that failed to change the world.

New Student Orientation to host close to 3,000 incoming UNT freshmen

About 3,000 of the newest members of the UNT community will gather for their first taste of college life when they attend New Student Orientation on campus this summer. The orientations are offered as six three-day sessions that began July 6 and run through Aug. 1.

UNT departments on the move

It's summertime at UNT and that means it's time for a little house cleaning and rearranging. Three departments are finding new homes on campus this summer.

Art appreciation — Stan Ingman, professor of applied gerontology, and Gloria Leeks-Beasley, employee of the Department of Rehabilitation, Social Work and Addictions for the UNT Dallas Campus, discuss the portrait Leeks-Beasley contributed to the UNT Staff Arts and Crafts Show. The show, now on exhibit in the Union Gallery, opened with a reception June 30 and runs through July 17.


Magazine ranks UNT among top 100 universities for Hispanic students

The May 5 issue of the magazine Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education named UNT to three "top 100" lists that cite universities nationwide enrolling and graduating the most Hispanics.

UNT professor seeks study participants

Vicki Campbell, associate professor of psychology, and her research team are looking for students ages 16 and 17 along with one of their parents to participate in a research project dealing with family influences on young adults' development and ideas about the future.
