| UNT professor seeks study participants
Vicki Campbell, associate professor of psychology, and her research team are looking for students ages 16 and 17 along with one of their parents to participate in a research project dealing with family influences on young adults' development and ideas about the future. Campbell says she hopes to gain insight into the many ways that families influence young adult and late adolescent development by having the participants complete surveys about their family environment, important people in the teen's life and thoughts about the teen's future. Participants will also take part in an activity with a researcher to explore the students' ideas about the future. Parents and students will fill out the surveys and complete the exercise at the same time but separately. All information will be kept confidential. After participating in the survey and activity, students and parents will participate separately in the Life Directions Workshop. The workshop will cover young adult and career development. Students will receive feedback from a career inventory and parents will receive a list of recommended resources about parenting and young adult development. Students and parents will each be paid $10 for their participation in the workshop. The Families and Futures Project will be held in the Psychology Clinic July 11 and 12 and Aug. 1 and 2. Participants can attend a 9 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. session. Each session will last about four hours. The Psychology Clinic is located on the first floor of Terrill Hall. For more information about the project, go to www.psyc.unt.edu/futures. To schedule a time to participate, call (940) 565-2631.
