Magazine ranks UNT among top 100 universities for Hispanic students

The May 5 issue of the magazine Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education named UNT to three "top 100" lists that cite universities nationwide enrolling and graduating the most Hispanics.

The publication compiles the lists annually, using information about four-year colleges and universities. The information for the latest lists was from the 2000-01 academic year, gathered by the National Center for Education Statistics' Department of Education. NCES found that, nationwide, 57,215 Hispanics earned bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees during the time the information was gathered.

UNT awarded bachelor's degrees to 306 Hispanics in 2000-01, ranking 56th in the country for most bachelor's degrees awarded to Hispanics. This accounts for 8.5 percent of the total 3,600 students who were awarded bachelor's degrees at UNT.

UNT ranked 58th on the list of top 100 schools awarding the most doctoral degrees to Hispanics. Out of the 159 doctoral degrees awarded at UNT, seven went to Hispanics.

The third list UNT was named to ranked four-year colleges with Carnegie Foundation classifications by Hispanic enrollment. UNT had 2,281 Hispanic students in attendance during 2000-01, giving it a ranking of 61.
