Faculty and staff can renew their parking permits for the 2005-06 academic year by intercampus mail through Aug. 12. Information materials and registration forms detailing the permit renewal process have been sent to full-time faculty and staff members. The information includes instructions for using the nine-month payroll deduction option to purchase parking permits and a pre-tax salary reduction payment option.
The nine-month payroll deduction begins with the first payment Oct. 1 of $20 for a "D" permit, $36 for an "A" permit, $12 for a "G" permit and $8 for an "M" permit. The next eight monthly deductions are $15 for the "D" permit, $33 for the "A" permit, $11 for a "G" permit and $8 for an "M" permit. In addition to payroll deduction, payment can be made by cash, check, or Visa or MasterCard credit or debit cards. UNT employees may send a personal check or money order made payable to UNT Parking, along with their order forms, through intercampus mail to purchase their permits. Those paying by cash or credit card must visit the Sullivant Public Safety Center to make their purchases. If faculty and staff members are buying a permit for the first time or are changing their permit type, they should indicate what type they are purchasing on the manilla card contained in their information packet. Those wishing to buy an "A" permit should contact the parking office for space availability. Those who choose to continue payroll deduction and keep the same type of permit do not need to do anything. Employees choosing the payroll deduction option for the first time must authorize the parking office to deduct the payment amount each month from their paychecks. Employees also have a pre-tax salary reduction option, allowing UNT to reduce their salary each month by the monthly payment of the parking permit. Because the pre-tax parking option reduces the employee's salary, federal income tax and Social Security tax withholdings may be also reduced. Permits will be mailed to faculty and staff members' campus addresses before fall semester classes begin Aug. 22. Faculty and staff who want the permit sent to a different address should provide the parking office with a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Employees cannot purchase a parking permit until outstanding citations have been paid. For parking rules, regulations and maps, visit www.unt.edu/parking or call (940) 565-3020.
