A campus memorial service was held Friday, May 25, for Mark S. Moore, UNT's vice president for development, in the Music Building. "Mark was always concerned about his colleagues," Gene Vestal, associate vice president for development, said during the ceremony. "He had the kindest heart of anyone I have known. He was one of the most creative people in the business of fund raising." Legislature OKs salary increase Now that the 77th Texas Legislature has concluded its business for the 2002-03 biennium, UNT can get down to the business of completing university and system budgets for the new fiscal year that starts Sept. 1.
Forney
named dean of UNT merchandising and hospitality management school Judith Forney, UNT professor of merchandising, has been named dean of the university's School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management. She has served as the school's interim dean since September 1998. Forney's
appointment, which officially takes effect Sept. 1, pending approval by
the UNT Board of Regents, ends a statewide search to fill the deanship. Lindsay Cameron of DeSoto is one of 20 students in the nation selected to the All-USA First High School Academic Team by USA Today.
Speedway races expected to increase area traffic Texas Motor Speedway will host three days of racing this month that could create some traffic delays for area drivers. Truck and Indy racing events are scheduled June 7-9 at the speedway and are expected to affect traffic on area highways.
Historian presents new view of D-Day invasion The Allied invasion of Normandy, which occurred 57 years ago June 6, resulted in terrible casualties for American troops landing at Omaha Beach, as graphically depicted in movies like Saving Private Ryan. Over the
years, many historians have blamed tactical leaders at the battle site
for the Omaha Beach disaster. But a UNT historian says most of the tactical
leaders opposed the invasion plans from the beginning, and blame should
be placed on those at higher levels

Foundation awards $705,000 to UNT researchers Four UNT researchers were awarded a total of $705,000 for chemical research in May by the Welch Foundation, one of the nation's oldest and largest sources of private funding for basic chemistry research
UNT Staff Council representatives elected Seventeen
UNT staff members were elected or re-elected to serve on the 2001-02 Staff
Council. Representatives will serve two-year terms.
Eagle Express ID cards now available If you're unhappy with your photo on your current UNT ID card, now is your chance to get a new one. ID Systems
is now producing a new UNT identification card for students, faculty and
staff. The new card features a color photo with a blue background.

Back alleys lower home values A recent
UNT study found that potential homeowners in Denton are avoiding houses
with back alleyways because of pollution, crime and hassle. Faculty Senate elects officers The Faculty
Senate elected the following officers at its regular meeting May 9: chair,
Juliet Getty, associate professor of merchandising and hospitality management;
vice chair, Jeffrey Oxford, associate professor of foreign languages and
literatures; secretary, Stella Van Tassell, associate professor of teacher
education and administration. The new terms begin July 1.
