Speedway races expected to increase area traffic Traffic Jam

Texas Motor Speedway will host three days of racing this month that could create some traffic delays for area drivers.

Truck and Indy racing events are scheduled June 7-9 at the speedway and are expected to affect traffic on area highways.

Estimated crowd numbers are expected to reach more than 80,000 for the third day of racing. If you plan to travel in the area, be aware of these races because they will affect traffic in the area.

Thursday, June 7
Practice and qualifying races.
Races actually begin just after 4 p.m., but gates open at noon. About 25,000 fans are expected.

Friday, June 8
O'Reilly 400 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
Gates open in the early afternoon and the race starts at 8 p.m. About 60,000 fans are expected.

Saturday, June 9
Casino Magic 500.
Gates open in the early afternoon and the race starts at 7:30 p.m. About 85,000 fans are expected.

Recommended routes to the speedway (and roads to avoid if you want to stay out of heavy traffic) include I-35W, Texas 114 and I-35E to Denton, which many race fans take to get to I-35W and the speedway.
