UNT Psychology Clinic to offer group for children of divorced parents

The UNT Psychology Clinic will offer a counseling group this semester for children ages 7 to 11 whose parents have divorced or separated during the past year.

Children of Divorce Experience, or CODE, is designed to help children understand the changes taking place in their families and to help them cope with the feelings that accompany those changes. During each session, the children will read a book, watch a video or play a game that will explore an aspect of divorce and lead to discussion. Topics to be discussed include problem-solving strategies, different kinds of families, self-control and self-esteem.

The group will meet for seven weeks on Mondays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 25 through Aug. 6. The group will meet at the clinic on the first floor of Terrill Hall.

CODE will be led by two UNT clinical psychology graduate students under the supervision of UNT psychology faculty members.

It is not too late to register for this program. To register, call Shelly Warren or Michael Shafer at the UNT Psychology Clinic, (940) 565-2631.
