Historically Underutilized Business Fair brings many vendor options to campus

UNT departments have an opportunity to use a long list of Historically Underutilized Business vendors when UNT hosts a HUB Vendor Fair this month.

HUBs are state certified minority- and women-owned businesses providing everything from pencils and envelopes to computer parts and software.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 30 in the Gateway Center Ballroom, UNT will hold the fair to give campus departments a chance to check out the numerous HUB vendors available.

In the 1990s, the Texas legislature passed laws to help minority- and women-owned businesses work with the state's 225 agencies. The law asks state entities to make a solid effort to grant HUB vendors opportunities to provide services and products.

These businesses go through a rigorous process to become certified as HUB vendors, including a review of two years of financial records, reference checks and on-site visits from state officials.

Many of the UNT departments who have used HUB vendors report to me that they've been pleased with their experiences.

I encourage you to visit the HUB Vendor Fair and give them a chance to impress.

Eddie Reyes is Assistant HUB Coordinator in Purchasing and Payment Services.
