UNT parking permits for 2003-04 for sale soon through intercampus mail

Parking permits for UNT faculty and staff at UNT for 2004-05 will soon be for sale at the parking office, located in the Sullivant Public Safety Center at the corner of Kendolph Drive and Wilshire Street. UNT employees may begin purchasing  permits in July and new permits are effective in mid August.

Information materials and registration forms will be sent to full-time faculty and staff members in late June, detailing the permit renewal process and instructions for the use of payroll deduction to purchase parking permits, and a pre-tax salary reduction payment option.

Employees choosing the payroll deduction option for the first time must authorize the parking office to deduct the payment amount each month from their paychecks. The use of payroll deduction by faculty and staff members who previously chose that method of purchase will automatically continue this year unless the faculty or staff member elects to use another payment option.

For the second year, employees have a pre-tax salary reduction option, allowing UNT to reduce their salary each month by the monthly payment of the parking permit. Because the pre-tax parking option reduces the employee's salary, federal income tax and Social Security tax withholdings are also reduced. In some cases, the take-home pay of the employee who chooses this option will increase.

Payment can be made by payroll deduction, cash, check, or Visa or MasterCard credit or debit cards. UNT employees may send a personal check or money order, along with their order forms, through intercampus mail to purchase their permits. Those paying by cash or credit card must visit the center to make their purchases.

New prices for faculty and staff parking permits were set at the May 20 UNT System Board of Regents meeting. A faculty and staff "D" permit is $140 — up $23 from last year's price of $117 — and a reserved "A" permit is $300 — up $25 from last year's price of $275.

Faculty and staff may also purchase "G" permits, which cost $100 and allow the purchaser access to general parking. These lots are located on the perimeter of campus and include parking at Fouts Field. The price for "G" parking did not increase this year.

The nine-month payroll deduction begins with the first payment Oct. 1 of $20 for a "D" permit, $36 for an "A" permit and $12 for a "G" permit. The next eight monthly deductions are $15 for the "D" permit, $33 for the "A" permit and $11 for a "G" permit.

Permits purchased through intercampus mail will be sent to the employee's department in August unless the employee prefers that the permit be mailed to his or her home address. If that is the case, the purchaser must provide a self-addressed, stamped en-v elope at the time of purchase. Employees cannot purchase a parking permit until any outstanding citations have been paid.
