More changes on the way for UNT employee prescription drug plan

Beginning July 1, UNT employees enrolled in HealthSelect may again purchase maintenance drugs (prescribed medications taken regularly) from retail pharmacists, but to do so they will have to absorb some additional cost and will only be able to purchase a 30-day supply at a time.

Prescription plan changes went into effect May 1 allowing UNT employees to purchase only an initial supply plus two refills of a maintenance drug from a pharmacy. All subsequent purchases for maintenance drugs were to be made through the Medco Health Home Delivery Service mail-order plan.

The Employees Retirement System will relax that requirement somewhat, allowing employees to purchase their maintenance prescriptions from local pharmacies, but with an added out-of-pocket expense.

Using this new option to purchase medication at a pharmacy, an employee will pay a $15 co-pay for a 30-day supply of a generic drug, a $35 co-pay for a preferred brand-name drug and a $55 co-pay for a non-preferred brand-name drug. If ordering from Medco, the employee will pay a $10 co-pay for a 30-day supply of a generic drug, a $25 co-pay for a preferred brand-name drug and a $40 co-pay for a non-preferred brand-name drug.

Employees may purchase a 90-day supply of a maintenance drug through Medco for a $30 co-pay for generic medications, a $75 co-pay for preferred brand-name drugs and a $120 co-pay for non-preferred brand-name drugs.

Employees purchasing maintenance drugs from a pharmacy do not have the option to purchase a three-month supply of the drug at a time.
