SANDRA
CONRAD, accountant for the UNT Foundation, has completed all the requirements
necessary for certified public accountant certification.
She attended an official ceremony acknowledging her achievement June 8
in Fort Worth.

article by BONITA C. JACOBS, assistant professor of counseling,
development and higher education and vice president for the Division of
Student Development, and ELIZABETH A. WITH, assistant vice president
for student development, was published in the Journal of College Orientation
and Transition, vol. 9, no. 2, spring 2002. The article is titled
"Orientation's Role in Addressing the Developmental Stages of
Parents."
An
article by DAVID McENTIRE, assistant professor of
public administration; RICH WEBER, professional development
coordinator in the Center for Public Management; and graduate students
CHRIS FULLER and CHAD JOHNSTON was published in Public
Administration Review, May/June 2002. The article is titled "A
Comparison of Disaster Paradigms: The Search for a Holistic Policy Guide."
Another article by McEntire and Fuller was published in Disaster Prevention
and Management, vol. 11, no. 2, 2002. The article is titled "The
Need for a Holistic Theoretical Approach: An Examination From the El Niño
Disasters in Peru."
An
article by GEORGE S. MORRISON, professor of counseling, development
and higher education and Velma Schmidt chair, was published in Public
School Montessorian, vol. 14, no. 2. The article is titled "More
Texas Bragging? It's Not His Fault." Another article written
by Morrison was published in a brochure for the Southern Early Childhood
Association. The article is titled "Early Literacy and Beginning
to Read: A Position Statement of the Southern Early Childhood Association,"
spring 2002. Morrison presented the keynote address, "Miles to Go,"
at the Breaking the Silence Rally in celebration of the 2002 Day of Silence,
April 10 in Denton. He presented "Education Reform in Early Childhood
Education: What Does the Future Hold?" at the Denton League of Women
Voters meeting, April 18 in Denton.
JOHN
"HAJ" ROSS, professor of English, spoke during a memorial
event honoring Professor Kenneth Pike of the linguistics department of
the University of Michigan, April 4 in Ann Arbor, Mich. He also presented
a paper titled "On Not Sliding Over Stevens' 'western cataract'"
at the Midwest Conference on Film, Literature and Language, Northern Illinois
University, April 6 in DeKalb, Ill.
FRED
P. WATKINS, lecturer in radio, television and film, has been appointed
to another term on the Eastman Kodak Educational Advisory Board.

TERRY
CLOWER, assistant professor of applied economics and associate director
of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, comments
on the impact that cities like Frisco, using an economic development tax,
have on the economies of other Texas cities in the June 7 Dallas Morning
News.
NORVAL
POHL, UNT president, and RICK VILLARREAL, athletic director,
discuss Pohl's appointment as president of the Sun Belt Conference
in the May 29 Dallas Morning News.
BERNARD
WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University
Center for Economic Development and Research, comments on the impact of
the current economy on the job market for teens in the June 1 Dallas
Morning News. In a column appearing in the June 10 Fort Worth Star-Telegram,
Weinstein writes about the economic decline of rural America and the Environmental
Protection Agency's possible contribution to that decline.
