Eighteen earn 2002-03 Mayborn Scholarships
The
UNT Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism has awarded $180,000 in scholarships
to students for the 2002-03 academic year.
Eighteen students, all pursuing master's degrees in journalism, will each receive $10,000. Five of the students won the scholarships last year and applied successfully to renew them.
The Frank W. Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism was founded in 2000 through a gift from the Frank W. and Anyse Sue Mayborn Foundation Advise and Consult Fund at Communities Foundation of Texas.
Through this gift, the Mayborn Graduate Institute is able to offer up to $200,000 in scholarships every year.
The institute is named for longtime newspaper publisher and civic leader Frank W. Mayborn, who owned the Temple Daily Telegram, Killeen Daily Herald and KCEN-TV/Channel 6, Temple's NBC affiliate, before his death in 1987.
This year's Mayborn Scholarship recipients are:

- Laurie Cipriano from Edinburg
- Audrey Easley from Dallas
- Ruth Ann Hensley from West Plains, Mo.
- Dan Malone from Fort Worth
- Christina Mercurio from Richardson
- Stephen Moffatt from Duncanville
- Eliana Munguambe from Mozambique
- Margaret Myrick from Texarkana
- Jon O'Guinn from Belleville, Ill.
- Greg Pearson from Dallas
- Maike Rode from Germany
- Jeffrey Ryder from San Antonio
- Syed Shakell from Pakistan
- Anita Varghese from Lewisville
- Gene Zipperlen from Fort Worth
