ITEM _________

SMALL CLASS REPORT, SPRING, 2000

PERTINENT FACTS

Pursuant to provisions of the Texas Education Code, Section 51.403(d), and guidelines promulgated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Board of Regents on August, 1979, adopted "Policy Authorizing and Regulating the Offering of Small Classes." The current practice is to avoid offering small classes whenever possible; however, the attached small classes, with appropriate justification, were necessary for the 2000 spring semester. It should be noted that the number of small classes offered is minute in comparison to the approximately 3,180 organized classes that were offered during the 2000 spring semester.

RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS

The offering of the small classes on the attached reports has been authorized by the appropriate academic dean following guidelines established by the Board of Regents and is recommended for approval.
