Faculty recognized at Honors Day event

Seven UNT faculty members were recognized during the Honors Day celebration in April for their contributions to the university. Each spring, UNT honors its students for academic excellence and presents faculty with student-awarded honors for service to the UNT community and high-quality teaching.

Five faculty members were chosen as Student Government Association Honor Professors Randolph Campbell, Regents Professor of history; Jeff D. Carlisle, lecturer in history; Terry Golding, professor of physics; Arleen Sugano, assistant professor of dance and theatre arts; and Alexander Tan, associate professor of political science.

Richard Tas, professor of merchandising and hospitality management, received the 'Fessor Graham Award, the highest honor given by the student body. Named for the late Professor Floyd Graham, the award is presented to a faculty member for outstanding and unselfish service to students.

Bertina Combes, associate professor of technology and cognition, was presented with the Student Government Association's Alton Thibodeaux Leadership in Diversity Award. The award, created in 2002, is in honor of Thibodeaux and his service and commitment to leadership in the area of diversity at the University of North Texas.
