President Norval Pohl has been named president of the Sun Belt Conference,
the athletic conference for UNT and 12 other universities. His two-year
appointment is effective this fall.
Regents don't change admissions policy
Actions at the May 17 meeting of the UNT System Board of Regents included approval of a 2003 admissions policy that continues support for automatic acceptance to the top 25 percent of Texas high school graduates.
UNT, NCTC
enter concurrent admission agreement
UNT and North Central Texas College have signed an agreement assuring
that students who complete the associate of arts and science degree
at NCTC will receive automatic admission to UNT.

alum David Layton named executive director of North Texas Exes
The
North Texas Exes selected David Layton, a 1994 UNT graduate, for the
post of executive director. He began his new duties June 3.

alumnus honored with 2002-03 Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship
When Thomas Black graduated from high school, he wasn't interested
in attending college. Instead, he enlisted in the Navy and served in
the Persian Gulf. On Feb. 14, 1995, an incident occurred at sea that
would change his life.

Council reps elected
Sixteen UNT staff members were elected or re-elected last month to serve
on the 2002-03 Staff Council. Representatives will serve two-year terms.
Faculty Senate elects officers for 2002-03
The Faculty Senate elected the following officers at its regular meeting May 9: chair, Jeffrey Oxford, associate professor of foreign languages and literatures; vice chair, Lou Pelton, associate professor of marketing; and secretary, Frances Van Tassell, associate professor of teacher education and administration, who was re-elected to another term. The new terms begin July 1.

has awarded $31,495 in 2002-03 Charn Uswachoke International Development
Fund Grants to 11 people in schools and departments throughout the university.

awards presented at President's Staff Sack Lunch
Several staff members were recognized at the President's Staff Sack Lunch May 15.
Neeley nets UNT Honorary Alumnus Award
Paden Neeley, UNT professor of accounting, has received the university's Honorary Alumnus Award.
The award is presented annually to an individual who never attended UNT but who has exhibited outstanding devotion, service and support to the university.
